The Queen of Hip-Hip & R&B, Mary J. Blige, will be staring in the upcoming film, I Can Do Bad All By Myself, based on Tyler Perry's play of the same name. In the film, Blige plays Tanya, a nightclub manager and singer with a host of problems. The role of her best friend, April, will be played by Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson. In addition, Tyler Perry's true self alterego Madea is set to have a role in the film.

This is going to be a must-see. Mary's character sings quite a bit in the actual play. I can't wait to see if she can apply all of the raw emotion of her singing to the field of acting. Plus, we haven't heard Taraji sing since Hustle & Flow... Remember when she performed "It's Hard out Here for a Pimp" live at the Oscars? This was waaaaay before her 2009 Oscar-nomination.

Filming has already started at Perry’s personal studio in Atlanta and the film is expected to be released on September 11, 2009. Immediately after, Perry will begin shooting Why Did I Get Married Too?, which be released next April 2, 2010. No word on whether Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, or any of the principal character from Why Did I Get Married will return for the sequal.

Mary is also in the studio recording songs for her latest album.
