Getting Punk'd: Jennifer Hudson Engaged To Boyfriend David "Punk" Otunga

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson got engaged this weekend to her boyfriend, David Otunga.

The 'Dreamgirls' star accepted the proposal of Otunga, known as "Punk" while a contestant on Vh1's 'I Love New York 2,' who presented her with a Neil Lane diamond ring on her 27^th birthday on Sept. 12.

"I can confirm that Jennifer got engaged to her boyfriend David on Friday night in L.A. " her rep said in a statement.

Both Hudson and Otunga are from Chicago and have been dating less than a year.

Prior to her relationship with the reality TV star, the 'American Idol' finalist had been in a long-term relationship with her childhood sweetheart, custodian James Payton.

Hudson is releasing her debut self-titled album on Arista Records on Sept. 30.

She also stars in 'The Secret Life of Bees' opposite Queen Latifah, Dakota Fanning, Alicia Keys and Sophie Okonedo. That movie opens on Oct. 17.
