Black Gays Have the N-Bomb Slurred at Them at California Prostest Rally

Geoffrey, a Black gay UCLA student, joined a massive protest outside the Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Angeles, CA to protest California's Proposition 8, which prohibits same-sex marriage within the state.

At the rally, Geoffrey was called NIGGER at least twice by Whites that blame Blacks and Latinos for the passing of the ban:
It was like being at a klan rally except the klansmen were wearing Abercrombie polos and Birkenstocks. "YOU NIGGER," one man shouted at me. "If your people want to call me a FAGGOT, I will call you a nigger." Someone else said same thing to me on the next block near the temple...me and my friend were walking, he is also gay but Korean, and a someone said "after last night the niggers better not come to West Hollywood if they knew what was BEST for them."

Three older men accosted my friend and shouted, "Black people did this, I hope you people are happy!" A young lesbian couple with mohawks and Obama buttons joined the shouting and said there were "very disappointed with black people" and "how could we" after the Obama victory. This was stupid for them to single us out because we were carrying those blue NO ON PROP 8 signs! I pointed that out and the one of the older men said it didn't matter because "most black people hated gays" and he was "wrong" to think we had compassion. That was the most insulting thing I had ever heard. I guess he never thought we were gay.
This is really sad that minorities are being pinned as the scapegoat for this. However, statistically speaking, Black and Latinos voted overwhelmingly for the passing of proposition 8, which is also a very sad thing. As a member of a minority, I understand what it's like to be marginalized and subjugated by the majority for something that I cannot or wish to change. If anyone should be able to empathize with the gays, it is us!!! Especially Blacks!!! We use the bible as justification to subjugate homosexuals and ban them from their natural right to marriage, but we fail to remember that the bible was used by the church to justify slavery in America for hundreds of years. In fact, many white supremacists still site the bible to prove that Blacks are universally inferior to whites.

However, it is just as wrong for gays to assume that just because a majority of a society feel a certain way, every single person within that society feels the same exact way. That rationale parallels how people view all gays as obnoxiously flamboyant and gaudy because of the media's portrayal of so many flamboyant and gaudy gays. For the same reasons that gays don't want to be marginalized, they shouldn't marginalize Blacks and Latinos!

In conclusion, our country is making some major steps forward right now. Let's move together in love and unity without any presupposed notions about what someone should be doing. It can be hard and confusing at times for every minority. Let it be known: I have nothing against gay people, and I love being a Black Christian, but two minorities trying to subjugate each other based off faulty and/or self-deprecating premises end up looking DUMB AS HELL!!!
