The Republican National Committee Appoints It's First Black Chair

Photobucket

The RNC has just announced that former Lt. Governor of Maryland Michael Steele will serve as their chair. This is a huge deal for Republicans, especially considering that the Democratic National Committee has never had an African American serve as their chair.

Despite the fact that Michael Steele is a Black Republican, and I generally have a strong disdain for Black Republicans, I actually think he is a positive representative of our community. He's not like those racist self-hating Black Republicans that we see all through politics. He's pretty moderate and extremely intelligent...

How do you feel about this new face of the Republicans? Is it all for show or are they genuinely concerned with the Black community?

The State of Illinois Impeaches Its Governor & Allows His Senate Appointment to Remain???

It's official... the House of Rep for the State of Illinois has voted 114-1 to impeach their crooked governor, Rod Blagojevich (pictured left). I'm sure you've heard that lawmakers were outraged that the governor was attempting to auction off Barack Obama's newly open senate seat. However, just because a lawmaker is impeached, it doesn't mean that he will be forced to resign. If you remember, President Clinton was impeached a few years back, but he was not removed from office. The impeachment proceedings will move on to a trial with the senate on January 26th.

In fact, the senate would not even allow his appointment, Ronald Burris (pictured right), inside the capitol building to be sworn-in. In order to swear-in as a U.S. senator, you need a couple of signatures from some high ranking officials. Apparently, the Secretary of State for Illinois, Jesse White, refused to provide a signature on Burris's behalf because of the scandal surrounding his appointment. White recently said that he would only sign the document if either the court or President Elect Barack Obama told him to do so. However, the Supreme Court just ruled that the governor's appointment was valid. Sooooooo, it looks like Burris will be filling Obama's senate seat.

Time Crowns Obama as "Person of The Year"

Photobucket
Time magazine has just announced their Person of the Year, and by no surprise President-elect Barack Obama took the prize, after beating out the likes of Sarah Palin and Chinese director Zhang Yimou (Beijing Olympics). Sarah Palin? That's what I said. How in the hell did Time magazine even take this lady serious enough to have her as a runner-up. She was a joke!

Ludacris Speaks About Controversial Obama Song

With President-elect Barack Obama’s historic election run now complete, Atlanta rap star Ludacris is finally breaking his silence on Obama’s marked criticism of his July dedication song.

On the track entitled "Politics As Usual" taken from DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz: The Preview, Ludacris professed his full support for Obama.

That support was overshadowed by controversial lyrics that labeled President Obama’s former Democrat rival Hillary Clinton as a "b**ch," and alluded to Republican John McCain as being close to disability.

Ludacris also took aim at George W. Bush, calling the 43rd President of the United States "mentally handicapped."

“The song was my artistic expression and was meant to get people who weren’t involved in the political process involved,” Ludacris reasoned to AllHipHop.com. “Being as though it was the first mixtape to reach the United States government was a bit overwhelming.”

Obama, who in 2006 first met with Ludacris privately to discuss community activism and Hip-Hop’s role in it, was not understanding of Luda’s vitriolic words and publicly condemned the track.

“Rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he (Obama) doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to,” Obama’s campaign released in a statement. “This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics.”

Although Ludacris has since met with Obama, he declined to elaborate on what their discussion entailed.

Instead, the Atlanta star revealed he put his pride aside for the greater good of Obama’s campaign to prevent any possible damaging distractions, as previously seen with Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

“What myself and the president spoke about is confidential, but I took it upon myself to not speak on the song because I did not want to further distract either candidate in dealing with the ancillary issues they had to face in order to become the next president of this country,” Ludacris explained. “Now that Barack has won, I can honestly say that we are all fortunate to witness a period in America’s history when we rose to our best.”

Through this experience, Ludacris felt that he learned how much can be accomplished when people focus on common ground in lieu of highlighting disagreements.

“We stood up and acknowledged that America’s true power is when people come together and focus on our possibilities rather than our differences,” he proudly stated. “Obama’s focus is to bring this country together and move it forward as one united nation. I believe in him and what he stands for and wish him success!”

Ludacris’ is also finalizing his sixth solo album Theater of the Mind, due in stores November 25.

The album features collaborations with Nas, Jay-Z, Common, Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, The Game, and Ving Rhames.

Obama's victory speech and John's concession

Obama's victory speech (Above)at Grant Park in Chicago, IL on Tuesday (November 4), following John McCain's concession (Below). I loved John's speech....He handled himself well & gave a great speech. I, myself was impressed....He left in style and I like him for that.

This is one of the defining moments in my life. We came, we saw, we conquered!! America we finally got it right, our country will soon be moving again. McCain was a strong competitor, but that wasn't enough. The people needed more! We needed Barack Obama! Unfortunately, some americans didn't share the same hope. This morning I was channel surfing thru radio stations and people were calling into a certain station to voice their opinions on the results from last night...one caller stated "the best man didn't win"...another said "American has it wrong" . I was thinking, what the hell? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion don't get me wrong, but I feel those callers are not willing to give Obama the chance to prove himself...To prove that he is more than just a black guy with great vocabulary. It's time to let his actions show! And like it or not, he now has the chance! THANK YOU AMERICA!!

Last Day To "Rock Your Vote"

On the eve of this historic election, thousands of voters are gearing up to cast their final ballets. A record number of new voters are set to head to the polls tomorrow, in hopes of making a difference. And I hope your one of them. It's no secret who I casted my vote for. And no, I didn't vote for Barack solely because he was black. When I went to the polls, I put my comfort into Obama knowing he would take this country where it needs to be, he just so happens to be a black man.... I put my trust in him and I feel his campaign has been consistent on the areas they've touched from the jump. The Obama campaign has run a discipline one. Might I add, Obama's campaign isn't just a campaign, its a movement! The powerful forces who have ran his campaign for nearly 2 years, working day in and day out, have been phenomenal!...without even a slip-up! I need these guys on my team...Lately, Barack has been busy trying to sweep RED states out from under McCain, turning them to BLUE. Barack is seeming to be successful in that area, even gaining ground on McCain in McCain's home state....which says to me, we just might have our 1st BLACK President tomorrow. Don't take my word for it tho...it can't happen if we don't make it happen. So if you haven't voted as of yet, please take the time and endure the wait bacause a change will soon come!

Barack The Vote, if thats your thing....
