"Lil' Kim Is A White Woman Trapped In A Black Woman's Body"

Photobucket
The drama from the movie "Notorious" continues , and I'm starting to think that Voletta Wallace is bipolar . A few weeks ago , Ms. Wallace had an interview where she stated that she wanted to have a sitdown with Lil' Kim , and in that interview she seemed to really have a great deal of respect for Kim . I thought that they might be able to actually repair their relationship, but not anymore . I guess the same Voletta that said she wished that B.I.G. would have blown Lil' Kim's head off is back . Just check out what Voletta said in her interview with Hip Hop Weekly :
She felt the character we chose for her was ‘too dark,’” Ms. Wallace says. “Do you know why the character was too dark for her? Because she’s a white woman trapped in a black woman’s body, and you can tell the world I said it, because those are Lil’ Kim’s words. She should be ashamed of herself.”

Then Ms. Wallace offers Lil' Kim a lil' more advice:
“Tell Lil’ Kim to go find herself, go drink a cup of green tea and get a life! This movie is not about Lil’ Kim. She felt we used her character to promote [but] this movie is about my son. … Lil’ Kim needs to go sit down."

Personally, I think Ms.Wallace is a lil' more dangerous than Lil' Kim, because people that are as crazy as Ms. Wallace are dangerous.

The Republican National Committee Appoints It's First Black Chair

Photobucket

The RNC has just announced that former Lt. Governor of Maryland Michael Steele will serve as their chair. This is a huge deal for Republicans, especially considering that the Democratic National Committee has never had an African American serve as their chair.

Despite the fact that Michael Steele is a Black Republican, and I generally have a strong disdain for Black Republicans, I actually think he is a positive representative of our community. He's not like those racist self-hating Black Republicans that we see all through politics. He's pretty moderate and extremely intelligent...

How do you feel about this new face of the Republicans? Is it all for show or are they genuinely concerned with the Black community?

Ciara is back with her 2nd video "Never Ever" ft. Young Jeezy, from the yet to be released Fantasy Ride album. I gotta give it to Ciara she ALWAYS breaks the mold on the idea of a typical video. She continues to let these other R&B chicks know that she's right on their heels. Maybe Ci-Ci needs to do a movie or a reality show to really reel people in. By the way, Jeezy came thru as usual! He's been killin these R&B features lately.>>>i.e.-"Love In The Club" & "I Love Your Girl". Check it out yall!!

The Boys, without a doubt, were my favorite boy band growing up. While everyone else were on ABC and N.K.O.T.B, I went left and stuck with The Boys. Their songs were catching and they had you dancing. "Dial my heart" definitely sticks out in my memory & takes me back down memory lane!

Many people don't rememeber The Boys, if you do, holla if you hear me! Ahhhhh lol

Beyonce Stays Feirce, Keyshia's Cards Are Still Getting Played, And Kanye's Album Is Doing Amazingly Well

Photobucket
I was checking out the billboard 200 album list, and I could not help but notice that three of my favorite artists are still pushing major units weeks/months after the releases of their respective albums.

Beyonce's latest album has been out since November 11, and it's still #2 on the charts, only one spot below Taylor Swife, who is probably the biggest thing in music right now. Of course my boy Kanye, whose 808s & Heartbreak came out on November 24, jumped a spot up to number 4 from number 5. Keyshia Cole also went up a couple of spots, from #9 to #6. Mind you, A Different Me, came out on December 16th, which means that it's been out for over a month.

And who said Black music was dead??? Check out the complete top ten below. The numbers in blue represents the spot that they earned this week, and the number in red is the spot that they earned last week. The # to the far right is the amount of units pu shed.

1 1 TAYLOR SWIFT Fearless 63,000
2 2 BEYONCE I Am...Sasha Fierce 51,000
3 3 NICKELBACK Dark Horse 45,000
4 5 KANYE WEST 808s & Heartbreak 39,000

Father Of 5 Kills His Wife And Children

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 28) - In one upstairs bedroom, the bodies of twin 2-year-old boys were found beside their dead mother. In another bedroom, 5-year-old twin girls and their 8-year-old sister lay next to their lifeless father.

Officers discovered the horrific scene after rushing to a home in Wilmington, prompted by the father's distraught letter faxed to a TV station describing a "tragic story" and a call to authorities.

Police believe Ervin Lupoe, 40, killed his five children and his wife before turning the gun on himself. Both adults were recently fired from their hospital jobs.
"Why leave our children in someone else's hands?" Lupoe wrote in his letter faxed to KABC-TV. The station posted the letter on its Web site with some parts redacted.
The station called police after receiving the fax, and a police dispatch center also received a phone call from a man who stated, "I just returned home and my whole family's been shot." Police are unsure who the male caller was, but they suspect it was the father.

Officers rushed to the home in Wilmington, a small community between the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and found the bodies.
All the victims were shot in the head, some multiple times, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. The killings may have occurred between Monday evening and early Tuesday, based on neighbors' accounts of firecracker sounds, he said.
Although the fax — addressed to "whom it may concern" and explaining "why we are dead" — asserted that the wife, Ana Lupoe, planned the killings of the whole family, police Lt. John Romero said Ervin Lupoe was the suspect. A revolver was found next to his body.

It was the fifth mass death of a Southern California family by murder or suicide in a year. Police urged those facing tough economic times to get help rather than resort to violence.

PressPlay: Kelly Clarkson - "My Life Would Suck Without You"

Kelly Clarkson is back on the scene with a new single and video titled "My Life Would Suck Without You." If you follow the American Idol winner's career, you know that her last (and 3rd) album sold less than 1 million copies in the U.S., whereas her 2nd album sold over 6 million in the U.S. alone. In fact, her last two singles didn't even chart on the Hot 100.

However, her newest single, "My Life Would Suck Without You," is slated to be the #1 song in the country this week, making a record breaking jump from 97 - 1 with 279,605 digital sales.

She's definitely on her way to huge comeback in 2009. Kelly's Clarkson's Fourth Album, All I Ever Wanted is slated for a March 10, 2009 release

Why Wednesday

Photobucket
I know you all are not familiar with, Why Wednsdays, but it's a new segment on things that just make you ask the question ''Why?''....

1. Why is Kodak Boi running around with a pocketbook, and calling it a "Man Bag" ? When did they start making purses for men? Tommorrow?

2. Why is Blagojevich acting like he didn't try to pimp out Barack Obama's Senate seat, when there's audio evidence? He knows he was trying to sale that position like the government is selling Fantasia's unpaid house.

3. Why do people want Oprah Winfrey to take Obama's Senate seat? You want her to give even MORE to white people? That would be like going back to slavery.

4. Why wasn't the black people of Washinton D.C. not on t.v. at the Inaguration helping Bush carry his sh#t out the door. We should have all been there!

5. Why does Kanye West want to sing when he sounds like a cat being raped by a horse on top of hot coal?

6. Why was it so shocking to hear rumors of Kanye talking about doing Bisexual porn, like he's never done it before? I thought that's what his first music video was with Jamie Foxx?

7. Why is it, when normal ugly people tatoo their face and dont comb their hair for years, they dont get the same recognition as Lil' Wayne. Lil' Wayne looks like a straight up charity child. Rich as hell, but looks like a broke a$$ yak.

8. Why is MIMS giving out his phone number, when he knows he hasn't made enough funds to pay the phone bill? Well, maybe he has a prepaid Tracphone? You know those 10 dollar phones from Dollar General. Yea, I know ALL about em', recession b#tches!

9. Why wasn't Flava Flav offended when BET asked him to host a Horror Movie Series? Maybe he doesnt realize he looks like a damn gremlin.

10. Why does Barack Obama studder like a child who just got a whoopin'? Those of you who were raised correctly know what I'm talking about. A good a$$ whoopin' will cause you to barely be able to breathe and speak.

This is ''Why Wednsdays'' , and Im Donnovan Truitt for KidduNot pullin' out

Brand New Lil Wayne - Prom Queen

This is the first single of off Wayne's next album that is supposed to drop next month, titled 808s & Heartbreak, Pt. 2 Rebirth. The direction is supposed to be completely rock 'n' roll.

If you take the song for what it is, a rock song, it's actually decent. It's always good to say rappers push the envelope, but I'm still undecided on whether I can stomach a whole album of this. What do you think?

High School Basketball Coach Gets Fired After A 100 - 0 Blow Out

The coach of a Texas high school basketball team that beat another team 100-0 was fired after his team won a basketball game with the score: 100 - 0. On the same day that he was fired, he sent a statement to the local newspaper stating that he would not apologize "for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity."

Kyle Queal, the headmaster for Covenant School, said in the Dallas Morning News online edition that he could not answer if the firing was a direct result of coach Micah Grimes' e-mail disagreeing with administrators who called the blowout "shameful."

I have to side with the coach on this issue. I grew up playing sports, and I was always taught that you always play to the end!!! Regardless of how much you are loosing by, you still give it all your all. And if you are winning, why would you be the team to gie up?

FYI, Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. It is winless over the last four seasons. The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with "learning differences," such as short attention spans or dyslexia, none of which attribute to poor basketball playing. In fact, most of the basketball players that I know have poor attention spans lol...

StyleNote: Duffle Bag Boys

PhotobucketAlign Center

Okay, so I appreciate fashion so much that I sometimes rock a manbag. Yes, a MAN BAG! Many men won't be caught dead with a "murse" and few men can actually walk around with one and get away with it. A manbag, as I like to call it- to stray away from the feminine connotation- is as masculine as you make it! Several men feel their masculinity will somehow be cut by the waist side if seen carrying a manbag, but I feel differently. I think it's all in your demeanor. By now I'm sure everyone has seen a guy carry a manbag, one time or another. This style trend isn't new- it's fairly popular in the UK and has been for years. I honestly don't know why I continue to live in the States, the style here does nothing for me - we're so late on everything. Im such a UK boy! I want to move lol. I don't like to push things on people, this is not one of those blogs, but if you are one who of those fashion-forward dudes who finds interest in a manbag, then let's ride!

To rock a manbag, and rock it properly, it's all in your swag (I promised not to use this word in '09, ugh) and how you carry yourself! 2009 is about taking risk & walking to the beat of your own drum. People are gonna talk...let them keep talking! We can't help what others say or think when they see a man rocking a bag. Society believes a guy seen toting a hand bag is gay, and in many cases they are correct, but I agree to disagree...because though some are, not every man who walks around with a manbag is, as they say, homosexual. I believe a heterosexual male can rock one as well...and rock it well. It's more of a style thing and you have to be content within your own skin to pull it off. One things for sure, you have to build confidence before tipping out, being caught red handed with one! Nevertheless, worrying about what the next man thinks of you should be the least of your worries- Do you! celebs have been killing this looks for some time now; Pharrell has been spotted rocking his purple hermes bag a couple of time and most recent, Ryan Leslie. It's not calling for debate!

If your ready for this next step in fashion & want to incorporate a manbag into you look this season, here's my advise:

  • Be very cautious on how you rock it - You want to hold it as if you're holding a briefcase, real business like...opposite of a women walking down 5th ave.

  • Be comfortable - Like I said, it's not a look that many men can pull off, so if you're going to do it, do it right! It'll show in your appearance if you're not completely comfortable, trust me and that's not a good look!

  • Be Stylish - Make sure the man bag compliments the outfit and look your trying to achieve. It's like matching your shoes & belts together, it's a must. Side note, you don't have to coordinate the color of your bag with your shoes. It ain't calling for that! Keep it simple.

  • Reap the Benefits - You want to carry your life in your bag, so make sure you get the most out your hand bag by choosing a tote with enough compartments & storage space for personal items (Cell phone, Laptop, Keys, Ipod, Snacks)

Fun Fact: I gave my manbag a name, which I coined "Kennedy". He's a double handled masculine, over sized-black crocodile tote. I don't normally name my clothing or accessories, but I will if I know they'll be around for awhile. This isn't something you have to do of course, just something fun to do to get used to having your new friend around ; -) ....

Remember how you rock your bag makes all the difference...Your image is what you make it!

Divorce

Photobucket

There were times when I had to stay to myself. Many surround me, but they only call on me for help. I had to sit myself down to realize this. I figured out that friends come, and friends go. I sometimes wonder how long will it last, and you know what? I've come to the conclusion that sometimes we'll never know, till they turn on you, they plan their attack, and once it's too late we find out the knifes in our back. The best way to tackle unneeded stress is to divorce yourself...divorce yourself before it's too late. Listen to what I say, . divorce yourself before a part of you dies. I feel it's needed to divorce yourself from some people, places, and things....If divorce is right, if divorce is wrong, I'll do what I want too move along.

A close friend expressed to me very concretely, that you have to divorce yourself away from friends, even family, who are not causing an impact on your life! And he is right, people sometimes hinder you from being all you are set out to be. Cut them off! You know those friends/family who only call you when they need something, but always forget to call when it's your birthday....Or those friends/family who call you to borrow $20 and you never hear back from them!?! Get rid of the pitts weight and put rocs by the door! I ask myself "how can I feel safe when I'm surrounded by snakes?". You don't have to be married to get a divorce, it's more of a mental thing...I can't express it enough, divorce yourself from all negative people, places and things. Begin to surround yourself with the positive...with people who have the same hustle as you and you'll see the difference!

So I ask, Is divorce is right, is it wrong?... I don't know, but I'll do what I want too move along. I'll move along, even if I'm alone!

Daaamn Homey!! When Twitter Goes Wrong…Wale vs DJ Semtex

Aight chall...I've been telling everybody i know to hop on Twitter.com!! Some did and use it...Some did and their page is collecting dust...lol...Well this past week I witnessed this situation go down live on Twitter.com between Wale and DJ Semtex. I'ma let DJ Semtex take it from here, this post was jacked from DJSemtex.com

WHEN TWITTER GOES WRONG…….WALE

This week has been a great experience for the whole world, so i figured it would be a great opportunity to get Wale on my show this week as he is a DC native, a dope MC, who better to reflect on the Obama experience right?

So I travel for an hour to get to the BBC studios, change studios several times as I have to wait 90 minutes for a 10 minute interview with him. From the start it kinda felt like he didn’t want to do it, then I check his Twitter page while i’m doing the interview…..

Nice. So halfway through the interview, I asked him what was up with the Twitter post…..

Let me clear this up, there is NO blackballing, beef, tension or anything else, I dont cause drama, beef, or hype, etc.

I didn’t mean any malice. The post is fair I just said you should be careful, twitter can catch you out, which it did. Wale put up a post, I put up a post.

Wale is a fan of Seinfeld, so the title of the post was done in a way, similar to when Jerry says ‘Newman’! (cop the DVD if your confused).

Like I said, I found the whole episode funny listen to the audio. BUT later on, Wale said on twitter that he doesn’t mind doing ‘good’ interviews with certain sites, but hates people asking about DC????

I’m not being funny, but a lot of people don’t really know Wale, so its probably the best time to talk about Wale and DC. I’ve done nothing but support him, if he didn’t want to do the interview, he should have just said so.

Re. obama, Wale’s going to get asked about that for the rest of his life whether he likes it or not, which isn’t a bad thing.

Reality is my producer said I can’t use his audio because it was so flat (he sounded bored) compared to other artists on the show Nas, Lupe, Common, Green Lantern, Roze (who is from DC), etc. which is a shame.

But real talk, it is a bit disrespectful to post something like that, when your talking to people who are helping you with your movement, or someone who has waited 90 mins on the other side of the World. Thats like me a having a cipha on my show, but putting up a post halfway through the show saying I hate rappers rapping on my show.

Cool, he posted it an hour before when he was being interviewed by other people. It doesn’t matter whether its me or anyone else, DJ’s, Bloggers. Journalists, etc we all put in the work. He should have declined the interviews if he feels that way.

Can the Wale haters chill.

Can the Wale Stans please stop telling me to ‘kill myself’, you can all suck my nuts!

I will continue to support Wale and his music, I spoke to Dan his manager, its all been sorted out.

Thats it. Finished.

Obama: A Letter To My Daughters

Dear Malia and Sasha,

I know that you’ve both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn’t have let you have. But I also know that it hasn’t always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn’t make up for all the time we’ve been apart. I know how much I’ve missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey.

When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me—about how I’d make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn’t seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn’t count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that’s why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.

I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential—schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them. I want them to have the chance to go to college—even if their parents aren’t rich. And I want them to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give them benefits like health care, jobs that let them spend time with their own kids and retire with dignity.

I want us to push the boundaries of discovery so that you’ll live to see new technologies and inventions that improve our lives and make our planet cleaner and safer. And I want us to push our own human boundaries to reach beyond the divides of race and region, gender and religion that keep us from seeing the best in each other.

Sometimes we have to send our young men and women into war and other dangerous situations to protect our country—but when we do, I want to make sure that it is only for a very good reason, that we try our best to settle our differences with others peacefully, and that we do everything possible to keep our servicemen and women safe. And I want every child to understand that the blessings these brave Americans fight for are not free—that with the great privilege of being a citizen of this nation comes great responsibility.

That was the lesson your grandmother tried to teach me when I was your age, reading me the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and telling me about the men and women who marched for equality because they believed those words put to paper two centuries ago should mean something.

She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better—and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us. It’s a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be.

I hope both of you will take up that work, righting the wrongs that you see and working to give others the chances you’ve had. Not just because you have an obligation to give something back to this country that has given our family so much—although you do have that obligation. But because you have an obligation to yourself. Because it is only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential.

These are the things I want for you—to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That’s why I’ve taken our family on this great adventure.
I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace, and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.

Love, Dad

Who The F*#K Is That?!: Drake

Rapper/Actor - Drake

What up yall?! The Virgo is at it once again, this time I'm introducing yet another NEW Column entitled Who The F*#k Is That?!
where we showcase artists who are fairly new to the game that we feel you should know about. Aight lemme tell yall how I stumbled upon Drake. So my homey Cat emailed me a mixtape by DJ Biggy Jiggy (Exclusive Tunes 47) because it had a song on it that I was tellin' him about. So I downloaded it, burned it and threw it in the whip. I had skimmed through the mixtape once on my PC but that was the extent of the airplay the mixtape got. Until the other day I was in the car, tired of listening to the radio and all the other CD's I'd been bumpin' and decided to put the mixtape in. Started off with the usual suspects Lil Wayne, Jada etc. but then track 11 comes on and hear this cat I know nothing about just murdering Kanye's "Say You Will" instrumental the 1st song on 808's & Heartbreak. It was Drake's "Say What's Real" And I'm trippin' because besides the song I did over that track, I had never heard anybody else spit over that beat. He goes on to spit just under 4 minutes straight with no hook just bar after bar of some of the slickest shyt I've heard in a good minute. Needless to say that track has been on repeat for past couple days(lol). I hollered at Kodak Boi, and asked if he'd heard of him and he put me up on a lil' of Drake's history to my surprise...lol...But I took upon myself to Google this cat and found out that he's been putting it work with the likes of Trey Songz and Lil Wayne on top of starring in Nickelodeon's Degrassi as the disabled Jimmy Brooks!! Here's what Wikipedia.com dug up!! Catch Up niggaz!! (Listen to the song "Say What's Real" while you read up on Drake) And yall crazy if yall think I'm not gonna post MY version too!! Yeah I spit...

Drake "Say What's Real"

Aubrey Drake Graham (born October 24, 1986) is a Canadian actor, rapper and singer. He is known for playing Jimmy Brooks, the physically disabled character on Degrassi: The Next Generation. As a rapper, Graham uses the stage name Drake, and is often billed as the new version of The Fresh Prince. He is currently signed to Interscope Records.

Were Anderson Cooper and Diane Sawyer Sloshed After Inauguration???

I know I would have been getting plastered too on Tuesday night, if I were not so tired from walking through D.C. from 3:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Certified MILF Diane Sawyer looks a tad bit hungover on the morning following inauguration. Actually, she looks like she got so drunk the night before that she woke up drunk lol...

In her defense, the best remedy for cold weather is a strong drink.

Anderson Cooper on the other hand is clearly inside of a studio looking slightly inebriated:

Sidebar: This video is from Tue Night/ Wednesday, which means that these white people were a little sloshed for only a day or so after inauguration. Black people, YOU SHOULD NOT STILL BE CELEBRATING!!! Inauguration was days ago and we are still in a recession (i.e. you will loose your job with a quickness)

Mr. 44 Is In The Door

Of course my president is black, but more importantly I'm proud to be apart of history. This day is going in the books, mark it down! We are in ''that'' moment as I blog & you read. We can one day tell our kids about this historical moment, how millions traveled countless hours to stand outside in 19 degree weather to see Barack Obama take the Oath of Office. And how amazing it was! The presidency hasn't look this good since the Kennedys were in office. The Obamas are smart, great politicians, passionate about their country, and of course I have to throw a lil fashion in...they can dress their asses off! This is the American dream...and were are living in it. I'm looking on TV, I see parents, babys, grandparents, grandchildren, Blacks, whites...everyone is out in support of the Obamas on this glorious day. I'm proud of Barack. I'm intrigued by his courage. Barack's inaugural speech were both, inspiring & instructive. He outlined our problems and gave ways to fix them. In his speech, he wasn't only alking to those who supported him throughout , but he spoke to all Americans! He spoke about responsibility, he spoke about seizing the childishness in government & coming together as one....it was truly a moment in time. This wasn't his usual ''Yes We Can'' speech, he came with a different approach and it was well received. American people, Obama is who we need to change this country around. I put my faith on it! This is an American moment...Dr. Martin Luther King talked about black faces in high places and now your words are ever so clear Mr. King...ever so clear!

Dream Hampton Talks Notorious B.I.G.

Dream Hampton, one of B.I.G.'s best friends and also first lady of the Hip Hop bible, The Source, sits down and talks Notorious with AllHipHop.com

In the film Almost Famous, the fictitious Rock band Stillwater refers to the Rolling Stone journalist as “the enemy.” This is probably the most accurate definition of how a musician would identify a music journalist. However, when the Notorious B.I.G. was at the peak of his career—a career that ended far too soon and is being honored with the release of Notorious—his best friend was in fact a journalist.

dream hampton, the first lady of The Source, VIBE veteran, filmmaker, and renowned author and activist, walked with Biggie from the start of his career to the end of his life. While dream was a friend of Biggie’s before either of them found their respective fame, she still remained a confidant of his throughout his meteoric rise and is probably one of the few who could paint a portrait of his life with her pen. In fact, she was one of the only journalists allowed on the Notorious set to relive the tale for VIBE Magazine. As Notorious hits the silver screen, dream tells us what the movie couldn’t and what Biggie’s legacy really means for Hip-Hop.

AllHipHop.com: First off, what did you think about Notorious?

dream hampton: I liked the film. I think that it’s going to open doors and that it’s going to be a big box office success. I really do. It’s still relevant. Sometimes when I listen to the radio, which is rare, I’m amazed at how present [Biggie] is on the playlist. So there’s the fact that he’s present in our culture, but then there’s also the fact that when you go to the store…the little sign to be legal to buy tobacco is [born by] 1990 at this point.

So there are kids that really don’t know the facts [about Biggie]. We’re really dealing with ‘90s babies now and the things that we take for granted, they just don’t…you know, know all the facts. They don’t sit around with old VIBE magazines. Even though VH1 did some documentaries that were out back in the day, they were like eight years old, so there’s a chance that the kids haven’t seen those. So that’s that. I think that the movie did its job.

AllHipHop.com: For you it’s more personal, knowing Biggie. What was it like reliving that?

dream hampton: Some of it gave me goosebumps. I mean, definitely the scenes we were at...George [Tillman] was really dedicated to detail, and he was very much about the facts. I remember when we were in L.A. on Wilshire shooting the scene [where Biggie was killed]…to me it was the hardest to watch them shoot—the B.I.G. assassination. He had Puff on the phone; he wanted to know exactly where Puff was in his car. He wanted to know if he was in the passenger seat or if he was sitting behind the driver. Like all those details were so important to George, and he’s super dedicated to getting that stuff down. I was actually able to help in that kind of stuff, you know like Puff got out of the car before the sixth bullet was in the air and stuff like that.

There are perceptions by different people that when shootings happen, everyone kind of hits the ground. It surprises people that Puff would be the person that would be on his feet in the air. And I’ve seen that at clubs with Puff. Of course New York in the ‘90s and you know how everyone’s down and it would be one or two people standing and it would always be Puff. So, George was super dedicated to details. I mean sometimes it was great to be on the set and be reliving some of that stuff, and sometimes it just wasn’t.

AllHipHop.com: In speaking with Voletta Wallace, she said that all the actors did a pretty bang up job, but the one that she said was really on point was Naturi Naughton. Now we’re hearing that Lil’ Kim is saying that she was falsely depicted. In your VIBE piece you’re talking about how Kim and Un were discussing how she wanted Christina Milian for the role. Then Kim was saying she was never advised on the movie at all. What is it that you know as far as the real deal in that whole situation?

dream hampton: I think that whenever you’re dealing with people’s life stories, it’s complicated. That’s why people wait until people die. I mean Jacqueline Kennedy wrote her memoir, locked it in a boat, and it’s not to be released until her grandchild is 55. So there are different ways to go about kind of unpacking history, particularly when it deals with private moments. Of course Kim’s going to feel a way about that. But then a lot of their relationship was also public, you know? Hip-Hop is an autobiographical form, allegedly, and they’ve written about their affair and their relationship and the volatility of it, so some of that stuff is just public domain.

The quote that I have in my piece about Kim saying Naturi was too Black, that’s just cheap. I don’t think what’s going on with Kim in terms of her own pathology around beauty is a secret. She’s kind of wearing that. So what are you going to do? It’s just sad when it comes to that. I hated to include that quote because Naturi’s beautiful. I would love for somebody with a body as great as Naturi to be playing me. I don’t even know what to say. I thought Naturi was amazing, I thought Jamal [Woolard] did a great job. I felt that Antonique who plays Faith was amazing. In fact, she was really one of the standouts to me. It’s difficult.

The thing about Biggie is that whatever songs he had about being ready to die, he wasn’t ready to die. So therefore his affairs weren’t really in order. When he left, he was the glue for his crew, and they haven’t really been able to…it’s not a self-sufficient situation, so you’re kind of seeing a little bit of the fall off from that.

AllHipHop.com: In the movie – and we’ve learned this about B.I.G.—he had this charisma when it came to women. In one scene, he’s meeting Kim, the next scene she’s on top of him asking if he has a girlfriend. Then Faith marrying him within a month –

dream hampton: No it was within a week.

AllHipHop.com: It was a week?!

dream hampton: Nine days I think. Yeah. It was really wild. Out of all the three major relationships in B.I.G.’s life—Kim, Charli [Baltimore] and Faith —Faith is the most capable of representing him, of being an ambassador to him, of raising his children, of handling the affairs of his estate. In that sense, at 22, he made a really wise decision.

AllHipHop.com: Did B.I.G. ever have that effect on you?

dream hampton: I remember going to Cali. I was working on a Tupac article, and I was talking to Biggie every night. You know, for the seven years that we were friends we did talk every day. I remember missing him [while in Cali], and being like, “Oh I can’t wait to get back to New York!” I didn’t have the thing of like, falling for him…he was more my smoking partner, my buddy, my best friend. He talked me into having my daughter when I wasn’t sure that’s what I wanted to do. It was a great relationship. He agreed to be my daughter’s godfather. He named his daughter after me, Tyanna’s middle name. And [Tyanna] recently asked me to be her friend on Facebook. I almost cried, and I looked at her info and it’s like Tyanna Dream Wallace and her little interests…skateboarding and bright colors. She’s having a suburban life over in the Poconos. He would be so happy to see his children right now.

AllHipHop.com: Why do you think Charli Baltimore was taken out of the whole movie?

dream hampton: I think if anyone has a reason to be complaining it would be Charli. I mean, of [B.I.G.’s] relationships, Faith was his wife, but Tiffany [Charli Baltimore] was definitely his longest relationship. I mean they were together for years. She was always at the house in Jersey, making her little chicken wings or whatever. When Biggie died, Ms. Wallace felt very disrespected by some of the things that Tiffany did. She had one of Biggie’s trucks and she kept getting parking tickets. I think she was parking in front of hydrants, like that was just her thing or whatever. I don’t know. I mean I really can’t tell you why. With a biopic you have to make a lot of decisions.

Like Ray Charles’ nine baby mothers became like two. I think that you just have to make editorial choices, and Kim was obviously a public relationship, Faith was his wife. I’m not in the film at all and I asked not to put me in the film. [Biggie and Charli] had explosive things too. Right before he died he got kicked out of the Four Seasons because him and Tiffany had a big fight and hotel security kicked them out. They had to go stay at the Sheraton in Westwood. So who knows if she would have wanted what their relationship was in there anyway. I don’t know; she would have to speak to that.

AllHipHop.com: Being so close to B.I.G. and knowing he had these three women in his life. We always have that guy friend who’s juggling a bunch of girls. Did you ever say, “You need to pick one”?

dream hampton: I remember saying to him, “Why’d you even marry Faith, knowing that you were going to keep f**king?” He was like, “I just wanted to lock it down.” He just kind of knew how special she was from the beginning. With Kim, I remember saying, “You need to stop f**king her.” I was like, “If you’re doing business, you gotta stop f**king her.” He was like, “I can’t, she’s the chronic.” So it was stuff like that. He and Kim—I remember he called me from the studio, they had gotten into it in front of Jermaine Dupri. I was really mad at him.

If we talked every night for seven years, there were four nights we didn’t speak because he told me him and Kim had a fight. I was like you don’t have a fight with somebody who’s 98 pounds. I was very upset with him for that. I’m always a woman, I’m always a feminist, n****s know me for that. I had Biggie do a fundraiser for Tupac’s stepfather on some political prisoner s**t. Biggie came and performed really drunk. I was always who I am with Biggie, and it was tough as a female friend. I did try.

AllHipHop.com: It was strange that Jay-Z wasn’t represented in the movie.

dream hampton: I felt the whole ‘90s were missing in some ways. That’s one thing…the glamour, the money, the whole scene. I mean Wu-Tang isn’t in the movie. In that sense there are other films that…and that’s what I said in the beginning and I just want to re-emphasize that this is going to open doors possibly. I mean the Eminem film [8 Mile] didn’t feel connected to Hip-Hop in the way that this does. You know how Hollywood is, if this film does well then other films will. Now there will be other films that come along that get the feeling right, the emotion.

AllHipHop.com: You wrote the Jay-Z autobiography and then it was never released.

dream hampton: Yup. Jay called and he said 30% of it was prosecutable and the other half he just felt like his life was in their hands.

AllHipHop.com: I think a biography is being written now by Elliott Wilson [former Editor-In-Chief of XXL Magazine].

dream hampton: Elliott – yea I heard that they are doing something. That would be better if it’s not first person. I mean Jay at his core, you know some people say oh I’m so private and then they tell you all their business? Jay truly is private. So as his friend, at this point I was his friend for 13 years, I love that about him. I don’t feel like I can ever say anything or do anything around Jay and he’s going to judge me for it or repeat it, you know what I mean? As a writer of course your ego wants it to be the book that you friggin almost died writing in Barnes & Noble, but I wrote it.

I mean I didn’t know I could write a book until I wrote Jay’s book. It was hard. I thought it was going to be like a long article and it wasn’t, it was a f**king book. So you know, I was interviewing his mom. It was stuff that he didn’t know about his own parents’ marriage that came out in this book. So if Elliott does the book, I think that would be good because it won’t be in Jay’s voice. It’ll be more like a biography with access. I’m not mad at that at all. I just can’t get caught up. Like it’s not my lifetime goal to be a Hip-Hop biographer. I feel no way about it. I’d totally read it and I think it’s a smart move on his part to do something that’s not first person.

AllHipHop.com: Ms. Wallace said that after seeing the movie and finally getting to see all sides of B.I.G., she didn’t like what she saw. For someone like you—being fortunate enough to have seen all sides of B.I.G.—after seeing Notorious, did your opinion of B.I.G. change at all?

dream hampton: No it didn’t change. I think the one thing that’s missing from the film is Biggie’s incredible sense of humor. In some ways the movie suffers from a recurrent amount of realness. You know, like these earnest conversations between him and D-Roc about “the whole hood’s counting on you, man”; they never had those kind of conversations. They had very brief, witty, hilarious exchanges that were brief because of their intimacy. Like they were able to communicate a whole lot in a couple of words because their friendship was that intimate and that trusting and that understood. That kind of stuff is difficult to get in film. I do wish that more of his humor had gone through. I think that with a mother —like once your son starts having sex—you probably don’t want to know him. And sons do a good job of protecting their mothers from who they are once they become men.

They put their mothers in a box, on a pedestal, whatever, and then they show their mother that person and they are who they are in the world. So I could see why [Voletta Wallace] would be surprised by that, but Biggie was by no means like…even the times that he got physical with Kim that I was mad about with him, I wouldn’t say that was something he did in his relationships. I don’t ever remember him being violent in any other relationship for instance. He was just so warm.

One of the things that Puff said to me once was that B.I.G. came into a room and made you feel better about who you were. And that’s so rare. Puff was like, “I don’t have that. I come into a room and n****s get jealous, they start thinking about how they can run up on me, whatever. They have different reactions, but it’s not like people are feeling good about themselves.” When Puff said that I was like that’s a perfect description of who Biggie was. He just was that generous spirit. So there’s nothing that Ms. Wallace should feel ashamed of. She had an amazing son. That’s why we’re still talking about him today.
